Dark Souls

So yeah, after getting lost in fabulous blight town for hours I've decided Dark Souls is inferior to Demon's souls in not allowing me to fast travel between zones. All this back tracking is an unnecessary and time wasting hassle, especially when areas are still rife with things that want to murder me. Many of which seem quite capable of doing so in fact. Anyone know a way to fast travel between checkpoints?

Ghengis_John: You do get to do so later. From any bonfire to some key bonfires.

But I do love the open world setting.
I love how I can explore/escape into a whole new area.

In this game, curiosity rewards you... after killing you. :D

Yeah Blight town is a pain in the ass, what with the toxin snipers the shit ogres, the fucking mosquitoes, the other shit ogres, the fire breathing bugs, oh and the poison swamp can't forget the poison swamp! There is a shortcut from blight town to New Lando Ruins from what my friend was telling me. You need to take the water wheel up then climb some ladders and you open a shortcut to new lando but you will be jumped by ghost so I suggest running your ass off as soon as you see one. My friend also told me that the same shortcut can take you to the valley of the drakes, but I'm sure you don't want to go there considering the Drakes have high health and deal a lot of damage, though killing them gives you 500 souls per drake which is a lot of souls in the beginning of the game.

Ranged combat also seems to be about 1000 percent the smarter option in this game. Which is unfortunate because they offer you so many medieval whomping and thwacking devices to choose from, and most people's chars will already be geared that way as a result. There are just so many things that are weak to magic but take too long to kill with physical, add to that these things will sometimes murder you in one hit in melee or have nasty status effects. After I needed to use ranged on the mosquitoes anyhow and seeing my crossbow bolts winding down I began to wonder why I didn't roll a caster. Every melee encounter has the possibility to equal serious damage to your person, especially as the number of opponents increases, but ranged combat is a simple matter of back peddling and face melting and from a distance most projectiles are easy to dodge. The game deceives you into thinking you can swing a chunk of metal around when in actuality you absolutely should roll a caster.

And the open world system I'm deciding more and more is bullshit. In Demon's Souls let's say you wanted an item off a Red Eyed Knight? Didn't get it the first time? That's fine. Reload the area and try again. Want an item off a black knight? Didn't get it? Better luck next play through. Such bull. I have a theif/dex char tromping around with a black knight shield, enormous black knight sword and giant black knight axe. That he can't even use... Meanwhile my Str char has gotten nothing, NOTHING off those guys and he had more humanity when I went looking for them. It's seriously got me steaming. It's like the devs are using the drops to troll me.
