nah you just have to tap G from the backstep, it's not hard to do. You want to tap 4 and then press G such that you move back very slightly then guard. The vulnerable time is very small for this action, smaller than step G vulnerable time (which is about 12 frames). It allows you to get some extra space while still allowing you to block quickly. Usually I use this as an anti-grab mixup tactic, though its usefulness varies with the situation.
