No Gauge means no inherent restrictions to defensive manuevers. That's enough reason for me. GI isn't quite as versatile as in other pre-V games, but I'm not going to be picky with a freemium game.

Sure, there's no restriction on guard impacting, but you get nothing free from a successful GI. You even recover fast enough to side step. Its literally useless.

Not in my experience. Especially if you follow up with a quick-enough attack and build momentum from there.
