...I made a thread where we could discuss characters we do like, but can agree that they are overrated...
Two characters that come to my mind are Rosalina and Sophitia...
I'll admit it... I use this character very often. She is my main middle-heavyweight in character Mario Kart 8 and I use her often for Super Mario 3D World due to her spin ability. While I don't use her in Smash, I will admit that she has a unique fighting style which is also top tier.
But then, as I thought about her more, I had an epiphany...
She is one of the more recent Mario characters and she already has more significance than older characters such as Daisy and Waluigi, not just appearing in Mario spin-off titles, but also as a playable character in a main series title (albeit unlockable) and getting a cut into the roster of Super Smash Bros.!
I'm really conflicted on how I should feel about her... Either I should be happy for her as she brought big things into the Mario universe, or I should feel that she has really overstepped her importance as a character.
Another character I hold dear because I use her. With her ease of use, relatively low execution barriers, nice variety of launchers, and speedy attacks, she and her kin have placed consistently high on tier lists and I can see why...
But, from a story standpoint, she didn't really deliver...
She didn't contribute much to the main plot between Soul Edge/Blade and Soul Calibur IV. Her backstory was that she was a simple baker's daughter who received an oracle from Hephaestus whilst skin-dipping. While most train for their fighting ability, hers is granted by her divine weapons.
She is not the most interesting in the series, yet she somehow gets a lot of attention from the fanbase...
