Hello, all
I am rather new in the Soul Calibur IV community (I know I'm late, but I just got a PS3 as of recently) and I thought I would come out and introduce myself to the rest of you enthusiasts.

In addition, I would like to ask of you a question about the tournament restrictions:
It has come to my understanding that Yoda is classified as a "cheap" character considering his short stature causes most attacks to automatically miss him and he has rather fast attacking speed. If that is true, I would like to know why he is not banned from the game tournaments.

Thank you,

Greetings!

Yoda is not banned from tournament in North America, infact you may be surprised to know that among educated tournament players, he is largely considered the WORST character in the game. Nobody considers him cheap, more of a waste of time to even fight him; because most characters have a single trick which allows them to beat Yoda by exploiting one of his main weaknesses:

Weak Soul Gauge: He has half the Soul gauge of other characters.
Can't Sidestep Effectively: Linear moves with pushback can keep him at bay all day.
Lack of Mobility: Some highly mobile characters can. hit him and run away for an entire match and he can NEVER catch them.

Hope this answered your question!
Feel free to ask more, and once again, welcome!

To add on, standard tournament rules insofar as character bans go are as follows:

Character Bans: Algol/Hilde/Bonus and Custom Characters

Reasoning:

Hilde: She has what is known as the "doom combo" which allows her to ring-out from almost anywhere on a small or medium sized stage at little to no risk. On top of that, even without it, she is a top tier character who flat out makes some characters unable to effectively play against her.

Algol: The reasons vary, but the two prevailing ones are "He has infinites" (which is true), and to some extent "he doesn't play like a soul calibur character", which is less... good, but hey.

Bonus Characters are clones of normal characters; but with wierd hitboxes which cause combos to miss or some moves to do wierd things. Banned for consistancy.

Custom Characters follow the same line of reasoning as Bonus Characters.

Yeah some people piss and moan about fighting yoda cause he is different and can't be thrown etc., but like Idle said he has a lot of weaknesses to exploit, making him potentially the worst character in the game.

/edit/ also welcome

Yoda is terrible, once you get used to him he's absolutely no trouble to deal with. He is banned in European tournaments, but so are the other star wars characters :/
The basic rule against yoda is don't pick rock or Raphael to fight him.
Welcome to 8way
I once caught a yoda in an infinite combo of unblockables - he couldn't do a thing! On wakeup the rest of the cast could sidestep it, but not yoda XD
