Help with logging into PSN

For Thanksgiving weekend i am going to my cousin's house in Arizona. This past weekend i went over to my friends house and tried to sign in on my account from his PS3. I got an error saying I couldn't sign in on this account. I know this is possible because i played with some of my friends while they were in D.C. and they didn't take their PS3. Someone please help.

You have to make a new User and log into your account on that

I think you can only use one PSN per User.

But when you make a new user it says Sign Up for PSN not Log into PSN. Unless i overlooked something.

sign up for PSN

"use existing account" instead of "create new account"
