Initially, I was pissed at Capcom for doing this. Reason? It's the year 2008, why am I seeing 8 bit from them?
We all know graphics don't make the game, but the MegaMan formula (the gameplay) has barely changed for the 20 freaking years he's been in the industry (aside Battle Network/Star Force and the Legends series) for the fact that it's a solid foundation. It didn't need much change and survived the test of time. The only noticeable changes the series made were graphical. The only graphical advance that they screwed up with was going into 3D with the X series (even though they got it right with Legends 2, wonder what happened).
When I heard about Mega Man 9 I thought "Awesome, hopefully they go back to 2D and make new sprites". When I first saw Mega Man 9 and saw those 8 bit sprites, I was pissed. Mainly because, as much as I like the past, I don't cling to it. If I want a nostalgia trip, I'll play the older Mega Man games. There is no logical reason to go back to 8 bit other than just being lazy. This game took little to no effort for Capcom to make and considering the amount of Mega Man fans who fap to their childhood everyday, they are going to make a pretty buck off this.
However, ever since I saw the retail price I'm no longer as pissed at them as I was before. Will I be buying it? Probably not.
