Srry if there's already a post about this, but I was wondering, what's a better fighter overall in your opinion marvel vs capcom3 or mortal kombat (2011)...I loved the gameplay and flashy-ness of mvc3 but I'm going with mortal kombat...it brought more of a story and It wasn't so button mashing like mvc3.... that being my opinion, what's yours?

Months ago i would've said MK, but in being exposed to each's ups and downs, while MvC has some definite irritations...MK has some unforgivable ones. So here's a pro/con of the two.

MvC:
Pros:
  • Easy to pick up, hard to master
  • TONS of depth, you will always have a lot to learn
  • All characters feel very unique
  • Almost all the cast is viable in the right team
  • Good practice mode and trials
  • Lots of reliable info (ala the "Bible" guide and great community)
  • MUCH stronger player base in terms of skill
Cons:
  • Online sucks
  • Terrible 1 player mode
  • X-Factor is stupid
  • DHC glitch is stupid
  • Phoenix is fucking stupid
  • Various unbalanced things such as Tronne assist, Magneto combos, etc...
  • Terrible DLC support and balancing patches
MK:
Pros:
  • Amazing single player campaign
  • Great DLC and balance patch support
  • Tag Team
  • 4 player
  • Constant fan service
  • Great online modes
Cons:
  • Game lag often negates great online modes
  • Practice mode is fucking terrible
  • Barely any info on the game to learn and many of it is not accurate or assumed, and there's little ways to try to find it your self
  • Many many bugs that lead to whiffs and all sorts of random issues
  • Wake up system is bad
  • Clunky input system (why the fuck does this game have negative edge?!?!?!?!??!?!?)
  • Much of the cast has a case of really bad and really good match ups making it hard to stick to a character you like
  • Poor coding in terms of things like random winning in a clash, etc...
  • Community is generally weak in terms of skill due to both history and the games issue with giving players the info they need to learn.

So right now while MvC3 has some issues...it's playable and that's more important to me. When I lose to something in MK I have no way of practicing to learn to get better...and even if i test it with a friend the game is so buggy and full of badly implemented mechanics that the results cannot be trusted. I also can't play my character sub-zero all the time because he gets owned by any character who can run away and zone (or any fuck ass with a hat!). I want to like the game...but when I lose in MK...I don't feel it's my fault and I'm not wrong for feeling that way. When I lose at MvC3 I can at least make peace with I know what happened and I can at least try to play around it.

I'm going to go with MK. I enjoy watching it more, since it isn't a collection of watching who gets their poke into half-life or worse combo off first. Just a personal opinion but I also hate Capcom and lost interest when they decided to sell you the last quarter of your game for another 15 dollars again. I'm eagerly awaiting UMVC3:Arcade Edition in a year or two with shoddy rebalance that people still whine and cry about. Also I rofl'd that anything a scrub could complain about was removed. My shitty cousin whined when I Proton-Cannon'd at the end of matches to chip out his last character on the way in, and low and behold now you can X-factor to avoid that. Lol.

My gripes with MK are one sided match ups, but hey it convinces me to play other characters as secondaries and I'd do it anyways. Some pretty strong tier-seperation but you can work around it so no big deal imo. A shitty training mode, and knee-jerk patches because people whine. Lol@nerf Mileena's D4/Kitana's D1 to deal with jump ins or nerfing Quan Chi's vortex then there's talk of geting rid of the rune trap.

---Edit--- poor online doesn't mean anything if you play offline with your local scene so that "reason" is moot to me.

I recommend MvC3, but you should wait until November when MvC3 Ultimate comes out. I don't like MK because it forces me to use the D-pad which I wouldn't normally use in SC, so it messes up my fighting in SC. Plus, as IvyFanBoy said, MK9's online is crap. You can have the best ping in the world and you still get lag.
