PS3 Controllers not syncing?

Okay, for some reason, my controllers have been de-syncing from my system. Sometimes it's after an update, sometimes it happens after I exit out of a movie or game. They'll be working, then all of a sudden they start flashing as if they're not synced to a system.

When I plug them in with a USB cable, they sync and they work, but as soon as I take the cable out, they're not synced anymore. Not sure what's going on. Is this a PS3 problem, or a controller problem, or both?

I would think it's the system, need to test mine out on another PS3 or something.
 
I've occasionally had this problem, and once not that long ago. Best thing you can do is hit the reset button on the back of your controller until it stops flashing, turn off the PS3 and try it again. If your controller doesn't have a reset button (it'll be obvious if there is a small hole in the back that you can fit a paperclip into), then I'm not sure how to remedy it.
