I'm in year 1 of 3 in my Game Development program, and over the course of winter and summer breaks, I'm planning on working on a game with my newfound knowledge, and I aim to have a working beta by the end of my 3rd year for use in my portfolio.
I have several game ideas, but I don't know which one people would find more appealing. It has to be something capable of being done by one or a few people. Here's what I got:
SOUL BALANCE
Genre: Fighting
Players: 1-4
Engine: 2D Sprite-based Flash
Soul Balance is a mix of Science Fiction and Fantasy, where Magic meets Guns. Two to four combatants will fight each other using many moves and abilities to damage their opponents, accumulating enough damage to knock them far enough off the fighting arena to K.O. them. Gameplay is inspired by the Super Smash Brothers series; art is heavily Japanese inspired, with a stylized semi-realistic anime theme.
In the world, the prominent belief was that the world was a delicate balance between the Positive and Negative, governed by the deities Angelica and Lucifica respectively. However, this belief has waned over time, and has become more of a myth and legend rather than the unifying religion.
Dismayed that the world is swaying in it's belief and animosity spreading between the different races and creeds, an ancient Draculen named Vaun seeks to resurrect the Goddess of Negative, Lucifica, to reset the balance by doing battle with the Goddess of Positive, Angelica.
HAIR TRIGGER
Genre: First Person Shooter
Players: 2-16
Engine: 3D on Source Engine
Hair Trigger is a multiplayer First Person Shooter set in the near future where Private Military Companies have found their use with the world on the brink of World War 3. Gameplay is that of an Arcade Shooter (weapons are pickups on the map), and offers a variety of gameplay modes and maps. Players will be able to fully customize their character's appearance, including colors, camo pattern, clothing, skin tone, facial features, accessories, and gender. Inspired by Halo's Triangle, Hair Trigger's gameplay is built off a Gameplay Cube: Guns, Grenades, Melee, and Equipment.
LEGEND OF GAIA: GODDESS OF THE EARTH
Genre: Turn-based RPG
Players: 1
Engine: 2D Sprite-based Flash
Legend of Gaia is about the world not too far from now, when strange phenomena such as magic and telekinesis have been acknowledged, but are extremely controlled. The game follows the main character, Anastasia, as she is suddenly cast into a world of danger and confusion as she begins to realize she is the incarnation of the spirit of Mother Earth, Gaia.
Gameplay revolves around four combat types: Melee, Magika, 'Soul Tapping' (variety of psychic abilities such as telekinesis and necrocommmunication), and Firearms. Art style is stylized manga-style with light, pastel colors.
S.E.E.D. SAGA
Genre: RTS
Players: 1-8
Engine: 3D in Unity
S.E.E.D. Saga is a real-time strategy game where players can pick from seven factions: Humans, Aquarians, Hevvenians, Hellians, Ruktians, Lost Martians, and Mechi. Each offer their own unique playstyle and personality.
Set in the future where Humanity is just starting to explore outside the Sol system, we soon find out that not only are we alone in the universe; but it's not our first time making contact. [the story is based on the Ancient Aliens/Ancient Astronauts theory] Art is simplified 3D, dark and mysterious.
