[09] Warrior
The witch is harder as a mage. As a warrior, you can run up to her, and then smack the shit out of her. With a mage, you need to weed out her copies, and then you really only get 1 or 2 shots at her before she restarts her cycle. Another reason why the game gets so much easier towards the end with a Warrior is because NO SPELL, not Soul Ray, not Fire Storm, nor Gods Wrath will EVER do as much damage as a decked out warrior two-handing a MEAT CLEAVER.
As a mage in NG+, False King Allant was also very hard... as I said before, ONE mistake and you are dead; I had to team up with a warrior to beat him. The warrior just ran up to him and started laying it down, soaking all the damage, and occasionally running away to eat some herbs. Yes, I was in the back, blasting the king with my strongest spells, but it wasn't doing nearly as much damage as the warrior's Meat Cleaver.
For me, the scariest boss without a doubt is Old Hero. Not necessarily the boss itself, but because of the amount of work required to get to him. That second grim reaper, with the female specters that shoot lasers out of their eyes is a pain in the ass.
The witch is not harder as a mage. You can just sit in one place which makes you less likely to hit a trap. False King allant isn't that bad either. His attacks are easy to avoid for the most part, and if you a mage you have should have warding which cuts his damage down a ton. Any mage that doesn't have warding equiped is dumb IMO.
I agree with Juece, Maneater is the most annoying boss to me. Of course the Old Monk can be a pain online if your opponent is good.
The Dragon Bone Smasher is a good weapon, but you need to factor in more than just damage. It's slow, and it takes a lot of stamina to use.
A mage can dish out a lot of damage too. Equip Kris, Monks Headwrap, Clever Rats Ring, and Insanity Catlyst. Lower your hp below 30%, and, with a decent magic stat, you will easily break 1K damage with Soulray.
Dealing with invaders is way harder with magic than melee though, aside from ambushes, cause they can be pretty hard to hit with any spells if they're any good.
If you are using the right weapon then a mage can brawl just as easily. I use a Crescent Uchi +5 and a PFS+10. I can easily go toe to toe with most warriors. It's always funny when someone thinks anti-magic field shuts down mages. To the me the scariest thing during invasions is when someone has a large sword of moonlight. Couple that thing with lag, and most mages are screwed.
