Dark Souls

I was let down hard by the damage my melee class got out of the thing. I had decently high Faith because I was using a lot of miracles, but I had high strength and decent dex but the weapon really did low damage. Enemies have high magic damage resistance in this game.

Which I find weird considering that when you use Darkmoon Blade it completely destroys everything.

If you want to use The Greatsword of Artorias you have to have your stats at 24 STR 18 DEX 20 INT and 20 FAITH but it is a decent weapon. The only real problem is the Artorias build is only really good at higher level since it really stretches out your stats. If you aren't going to be using miracles then having high faith is a bust, though once you have your faith at 16 you can use homeward. Homeward makes farming souls and items so much easier.

Edit: I remember you mentioning that you had the Balder shield. If you do then start using it as it has the highest stability of all normal shield outside of the silver knight shield.

Second edit: Also use the balder side sword, from what I've been hearing it is the best straight sword in the game. People call it the Balder Swag Sword.
You can actually just buy it from the Crestfallen merchant in Sen's Fortress. 4000 souls and it's all yours!

I was actually unaware of that. I knew the normal version did magic damage but I didn't know that it was the majority of the damage it dealt.
What makes that weapon total garbage in most situations is that the damage is mostly magic, so it gets reduced across the board. If you were to use the Cursed Greatsword it will do more damage for most characters, because even though the stat bonuses are lower (all Cs I think) the damage is purely physical.

Well, I took your guys' advice and boosted my intelligence to 18 and that's about all I've raised so far. I'm now around level 49 and stuck on Ornestein and Smough. I headed over to the Pyromancer guy and buffed up the Pyro had to I think +9 and got Combustion. Seems pretty nice, but the range is kinda lacking.

I also bought a bastard and raised it to +10, seems to do pretty good damage, though I don't like to slow speed or the range on the swings. Its kinda difficult to hit speedy enemies with it. I met the giant blacksmith and saw a greatsword upgrade that required Artorias' soul called the Abyssal Greatsword. Seems to require some heavy stat spreads like 22 strength, 18 intelligence and 18 faith. I also saw the Greatsword of Artorias which also requires a similar stat spread but higher strength (24).

I haven't raised Attunement, and I'm not sure how I'm going to handle this next boss. I've burned through all my humanity just trying to get to the hall and summon some help only to get invaded and killed instead.

I did pick up a few things from the Silver Knights including Dragonslayer Arrows and the Dragonslayer Bow. Also got a bunch of Painted Guardian Swords.

My Strength is around 23 now, same as my Endurance. Dex is 17 or 18, Faith is 8 or 9 (Wanderer base) Vitality is still 20, Intelligence is 18. Haven't touched anything else really.

EDIT: Probably should mention that I upgraded Elite Knights Armor to +3 now. Although I'm not sure if its having much effect in reducing damage. I'm also really starting to feel the weight on my gear now.

EDIT2: Also, are all the best one-handed swords dex-based? Seems like every good strength sword is a greatsword.

+9 is pretty good but just wait till you get an ascended pyro flame! Combustion is meant for very close range and does a decent amount of damage that usually goes around shields. There is a buffed version Great Combustion but you have to find the Pyromancy trainer in Blight town to learn the really good spells or join the Chaos Covenant and gain access to Chaos spells which do a lot of damage and leave lava. Each Chaos spell takes up 2 attunment slots though.

I never used the bastard sword so I can't really give you any input I know it's a greatsword though, I can tell you about greatswords. Greatswords are really strong and have really large range of attacks which can hit multiple enemies once you learn how to handle them. The Aybss greatsword is something I haven't made so I can't tell ya about it. The greatsword of Artorias was talked about by me and Landslide so you should have an idea about the sword, just remember that the normal version of the sword is a divine weapon, meaning it will kill skeletons in the Catacombs.

You can summon Solaire to help you in the boss fight, his summoning sign in on the staircase where the silver knight is.

The Dragonslayer Bow is pretty cool but the arrows are expensive (500 souls each) also it doesn't shoot fast at all but it does do a lot of damage.

With your Int at 18 you should be able to use some spells now so you can start using magic if you have any on you.

The elite knight set will benefit you in the long run, the poise it gives you is a huge help.

Dex is your friend in this game, it helps with the use of weapons and it also helps casting time on spells, miracles and pyromancy.

I thought you guys wanted me to use one or the other when it comes to strength and dexterity.
