In Firelink leading up to the first sewer entrance where that lone rat is, you can jump to the area underneath it. Later on in the game (after blight town) The merchant should be under there.

Oh I never went back there after the beginning when I got the ring, I will check it out.

So I tried to join the darkwraiths and I was murdered by the 4 kings, I only fought one and he murdered me. I just joined the darkmoon covenant instead. I wanted to be a darkwraith but just joining was too much of a hassle as I want to start farming for humanity in the dukes prison and trying to kill the kings was too difficult.

On a separate note I am trying to make the weapon onrstein had but I'm low on shards, is his spear worth getting?

I am level 80 now. Woo. Downside, my pyromancer flame is missing one point of magic adjust and one point of damage because I ascended it at lvl 14 instead of 15 without knowing. That is bugging the hell out of me. Do you see what happens when we don't check the wiki at every step?

you could ascend it at lvl 14? I had no idea, and here I thought it could only be done at lvl 15.

You need to kill the four kings anyways to fill the lordvessel. The four kings are actually very easy.
