Left 4 Dead

That's sort of an odd game to compete in being randomized and all.

yeah, that is a weird choice. Im curious to see what a competitive aspect of L4D looks like. IMO, the randomness isnt that huge of a factor in the MP since randomly generated hoarde mobs arent gonna pose much of a problem, and the AI director generally spawns 2 Hunters, 1 Smoker and 1 Boomer for the infected team, so the only real random aspect is which one you're gonna end up with. MP is more a game of attrition then anything else, from my exp with it.

Jay, c'mon man. Don't be a killjoy. This game has a balence even with it being randomized. Im not gonna lie multiple tank spawns or early tank spawns are always suck. but even with that mother fucker, it could go either way. Random should never be a reason to dismiss the competitiveness of a game. Especially L4D where teamwork is an absolute requirement to succeed, if your team is a solid enough unit, they should be able survive any string of Bad Luck that the game throws at them. Alternatively, as the Infected, you may never get a Tank to help wreck shop. But with enough patience, coordation, and teamwork. Even a good surivor team can be handled. Its all about taking the hand your given and working with it. Kinda like life or card games.

Yeah, well there's a difference between playing the versus game competitively for fun, which I always do, or playing it as a competitive sport. Competitive league people still complain about critical hits in TF2 due to their randomness. Do you think teams aren't gonna throw a fit when they get a shitty tank spawn, or no tank at all, which will happen all the time? Competitive teams don't buy 'bad luck' when it's the computer denying them the tools. How about they run a TF2 league where one team randomly can't use engineers for their turn on defense? Sure it can be done, but when records are on the line people get bent out of shape over anything.

i finally played this game yesterday for the first time and thought it was alright. the controls felt a little wonky to me but i guess its just something to get used to. its hard to imagine it being played "professionally" though... but like someone else mentioned, halo 3 is trash (even though i love it, dont get me wrong) and is still high priority over at mlg. that is due to money profits from popularity i'm sure, and left4dead seems to have a fairly good fanbase right now. so who knows.

This game is the fucking shit. Vs mode all day fucking long, as long as i've got friends online to play with. Especailly playing as the Infected. I wish i could just choose to do that all the time instead of switching to survivors. Not really to fond of the idea of playing with random teamates on vs. though. If any of you want to get a vs game going and see me on line, just shoot me an invite and 99% of the time i will stop whatever i'm doing to play.

That was awesome on Saturday Rekano. I had a blast. Sigel and i played last night too, and really kicked some ass. We no shit, honest to god scored "1337" after our first or second round or whatever. I wish i took a picture of that shit. Hilarious.

Halo 3 is the most random FPS ever and MLG plays that shit.

Halo3 has nothing on the randomness in L4D.

I was in a game the other day where my team got a total of 4 tanks (1, 1, 2) over 5 maps. The other team got 6 tanks (1, 1, 1, 1, 2), meaning on average they went further with more players.

It'd be like in any FPS randomly spawning vehicles for one team and not the other.
