It was setup to be a REPLACEMENT for caliburforum, not a rival... however, there is a lot of politics and bureaucracy going on, and the administration at CF.com is turning 8WR.com into a rival destination because they are afraid of being ousted from power.
CF.com is currently failing the community. Yes, right now it runs fine, but if the number of active users on that forum ever exceed 150 at a time, the server begins to bog down and page loads begin to take anywhere between a reported 30 seconds to 26 minutes to complete. The server has not been maintained in a long time, and as each week goes by, the performance of those forums get worse and worse. Those forums could disappear at any moment without any notice.
As well, the registration policies at CF.com are not conducive for new members to the community. The admin and contact addresses are all invalid. If people are having problems registering a new account, how do they get help? Who does someone contact? Unless you already have an account there, or know a member of the community who can help you out, you are out of luck.
The way those forums are setup, it absolutely tries to restrict new registrations and new members to the community. Not to mention, the reigning admin at CF, called 8WR, "a nice casual forum"; even though it is no such thing. He holds no respect for new members of the community; and since new members come to 8WR, and are not part of the old members from CF, he doesn't take them seriously.
