i could use PuTTy or Cygwin on windows, and I do, but again, those arent built in. those arent in every single windows environment i could ever sit down at, and a good working environment, is one that is standardized

Standardized environments aren't really that big of a deal, since you're probably almost always working on specific clients, and standardization as a strong point of Linux is just ironic.

I dont really think so, as it helps when you're doing tech support for someone elses machine or even developing certain kinds of software if you have a set of standardized tools to utilize - it means less work for you, and less hassle for your client. if you are comfortable with those standardized tools, and those tools are usable across a majority of platforms and systems, then yea I think that is a justifiable strong point not just for linux, but for all *nix systems, and it just happens by coincidence that OSX is a *nix systems and im here to root for all *nix systems; not just linux.

of course there is also the benefit of accessibility to those tools; even if they are available on other systems by third part means, they are always at your fingers in the terminal of a *nix system.

you may think perhaps standardization is a joke on linux for lack of a unified binary format, and sure thats a sore point, but in terms of POSIX they are at the very least POSIX compliant systems, and I believe a few, such as Debian(at least until their next release, when they'll be adopting systemd over init, as systemd is not POSIX standard) are POSIX conforming. thats enough standardization right there when combined with *nix-like philosophy to ensure a standardized working environment, even if the commands are slightly different, the methodology, general syntax, filesystem structure and permission hierarchy of everything in each of the systems is pretty much identical.

OSX is also by coincidence POSIX conforming. so you'll find the same type of environment. and since its a *nix, you'll find the same types of hardcoded tools there as well.

so combined with that they are all Unix based systems either by code or philosophy, and have some degree of POSIX compliance, id say that makes them workable across the board for anybody who has used any other *nix based system in their lives before.

But then again Im not gonna speak out against windows directly, because its good enough to get the job done even if i dont like it; and if you use windows, or prefer windows, then theres nothing wrong with that. I just simply wanted to dispell the myths people have about macs being garbage computers and OSX being inadequate, because its simply not true. Besides you can always throw Windows onto a mac if you dont like OSX - I just say people should give it a chance before they judge, instead of making assumptions about a system that they've either never personally used, or lack modern experience with. Who knows - they might even like it.

Life is all about trying new things.

I bet half the people here weren't born into existence when these were THE gaming PC at the time. I never really thought about that way but yeah ~ lol ~ it did boot up literally in 2 seconds. Hit the "on" rocker switch and this was the screen. No splash screen. Just right to good ol' 64(K) Basic.
