the Definition of a nerd/geek

Pro gaming is considered nerdy because it's only a few small steps away from pro Magic: The Gathering or pro chess.

I'm a little skeptical of that quote "I play video games". If a person were to ask what I do for a living and I say "I draw", "I study Physics", "I go fishing", "I make clothes" etc wouldn't I also be considered a nerd cuz it sounds as though I'm hardcore into these certain things?

Someone asks "What do you do for a living?"

If you said...
1. "I draw" You are an Emo, or an Artist. (blurry line separates the two)
2. "I study Physics." Yes, yes you are a nerd.
3. "I go fishing" You're a hick, but a cool one, because fishing for a job would be sick
4. "I make clothes" You're chinese

There we go, cleared that right up.

From your POV that is.

All these examples I'm giving are based on certain individual's interest. But I don't understand what makes video games and physics nerdy compared to the rest of other things that aren't considered nerdy?

The way I see is this... in any field of study we use terminologies even in 8wayrun we also our own terminology. If we say a term from a subject to normal ppl, they'll be like "what?". They'll be asking for "Layman's terms".

It's just like a doctor who uses all these science terms or my teacher who uses a term from skiing that I don't understand about. I'll be asking for layman's terms.

God dammit ok....

I don't see that being applied to pro gamers appropriately this way.

It sounds to me that ppl who label pro gamers as nerds are indeed ignorant. They haven't been where we've been so what do they know about them or perhaps I should say us?

Most of the well-known pro-gamers interviewed like Fatal1ity, KillOR just to name a few, they socialize with other gamers and they talk with confidence to the cameras when being interviewed; that doesn't sound like they are nerdy do they?

From dictionary.com it also states that these ppl are single-minded. Well what's to be singled minded about pro gamers if they also do other things in life. Fatal1ity what else does he do? He cooks and works out and plays sports. KillaOR, he plays sports. David Sirlin was a pro gamer and now he's working in a gaming company and I heard he's studying some business.

Yes there are some pro gamers who are in fact nerdy, but from what I've actually seen and been in to many are not like that, itz just that ppl don't hang around with these ppl just to understand how cool they are.
