Ehhh not too long (though I may be judging this on my own skewered perspective on the campaign and my very focused build order) I can usually get one or two of them made by the start of the second month. The problem at that point being the alien alloys needed to build more. Eventually you'll upgrade past the skeleton suit to one of three super suits (your favorite is a matter of personal preference but I like the stealth suit) though that is so long into the future that it will not be a waste to build six skeleton suits.
Snipers are awesome, particularily on highway maps. The skill that lets them shoot again if they get a kill is nuts. I also fancy the shared vision they can get. My favorite trooper though would be a tie between assaults and supports. I sometimes run with two supports because the different grenades can be stacked and they help you get away with all manner of mischief. Assaults are just generally awesome and thanks to the skill where they automatically shoot anything that gets too close they're not bad on the defense either. Plant one behind a doorway that a lot of trouble will have to pass through and watch the alien body parts fly.
